The Louisville Regional Airport Authority contracted with Hanson Professional Services Inc. to trim or remove trees that do penetrate, or will penetrate, approach surfaces at Bowman Field. BDC provided landscape design consultation for affected property owners, guiding them through a tree replacement and landscape enhancement process. During implementation, BDC did project management and inspection services of the tree and landscape installations. The program required coordination of replacement trees for private residential properties, Louisville Metro Parks, Big Springs Country Club, and airport property.
Planning for ecological and functional tree diversity, as well as the long-term preservation of the existing runway approaches, increases the overall benefits of the urban forest for the community, mitigating environmental stresses such as extreme temperatures and drought.
